What is DisneyBounding? I think the best definition comes from the creator of the style sensation herself, Leslie Kay:
“DisneyBounding is a way for teenagers and adults to show their love and appreciation for Disney and play dress up without actually wearing a costume so it takes trendy clothes and bases the outfits after Disney characters.” – Disney Geekery, Interview: Disneybound Explained By Leslie Kay
Essentially, where Disney and fashion collide. I recently took a trip down to Southern California to attend Spring Dapper Day 2015 and with a day in California Adventure before Dapper Day, the gang agreed that we should Disneybound as the Fab Five (four in our case): Mickey and Minnie Mouse as well as Donald and Daisy Duck. With best friends partnered as the iconic duos, we rocked the park in our makeshift outfits!
I DisneyBounded as Mickey Mouse.
Jackie, DisneyBounding as Minnie Mouse.
Allie and Cojo (Courtney), DisneyBounding as Daisy and Donald Duck, respectively.
The Fab Four!
What’s great about DisneyBounding is you take what you already have in your closet and translate it into a Disney character of your choice. Sometimes a little shopping excursion is helpful but otherwise take a look in your closet and see what you can come up with!
If you’re feeling inspired, you can check out some more outfits put together on DisneyBound’s tumblr!
“USA Believe” t-shirt by Bring Hockey Back. I am a huge fan of hockey, comfy t-shirts, and supporting small companies, so when I saw BHB released this new design in honor of the 30th anniversary of the “Miracle On Ice” at Lake Placid, I just had to have it!
Lemon Zinger herbal tea by Celestial Seasonings. Being a big tea drinker, Winter or not, I had my work cut out for me when looking for a decaffeinated tea that didn’t make me want to cozy up in bed and I found just the one!
“She will touch the leaf of the apple, and die!” decal by Decalology Designs on Etsy. Aurora, was my favorite Disney princess growing up so I took to Etsy to find the perfect decal for my Macbook. I ended up custom ordering from Decalology Designs and had a beautiful outcome.
Urban Decay Naked series fountain (shade 3.5 ). I am not your girl when it comes to makeup, I mean except for certain events I successfully avoided it till I was 21! But a good friend taught me the ropes and set me up with this foundation and now I wear makeup every day!
Red Nose Red 01 lipstick by Kate Moss for Red Nose Day. After living in London for four months, I, like many Brits, get stoked when Red Nose Day comes around (although Americans think I’m a little crazy for wanting to wear a red clown’s nose). One of the efforts to raise money for the country-wide fundraiser was a new Kate Moss lipstick and I absolutely love the shade of red!
With Winter now in the past it’s time for me to launch into buying all things Spring, so look out world!
I’m totally kidding. Everyone knows we don’t need to read another thing about THAT BOOK because THAT MOVIE is out now. (Clearly neither of us have plans to see it). BUT seeing as Michelle’s look is monochromatic, I’m rollin’ with it!
And oooooh girl! Michelle stepped up her game with this shoot! To be honest, it’s a rare occurrence for me to see her in a dress and though this is a tunic-style dress, it still counts!
Michelle found these really awesome abstract leggings she’s OBSESSED with from Thread Lounge and opted for a more eclectic outfit this week. Though eclectic, she keeps the tones subdued and stays with that aforementioned monotone color palette that really makes her long (and newly dyed) hair pop!
If you haven’t been to Thread Lounge on Valencia Street in San Francisco thus far, we highly recommend it! Super great for unique discounted designer clothing and accessories.
Dress: Thread Lounge; Leggings: Thread Lounge; Shoes: Cathy Jean.
FINALLY! A post where Michelle’s wearing her giraffe pants! I’m in love with these pants, and she acquired them on her trip to Kenya over the summer from The Maasai Market in Nairobi. The color is perfect for any season and though they’re soft pants, they’re not too sheer, which means they can be worn year round!
Michelle pairs a cropped sweater, beaded necklace (also from Kenya) and laser-cut sandals (in Winter!) with her soft pants. This is a quick and easy go-to outfit when you want to be casual but still stylish!
Sweater: McCaulou’s; Pants: Maasai Market, Nairobi; Necklace: Maasai Market, Nairobi; Shoes: City Classified.
We ended up chasing the sunset with this shoot and for the life of me, I could not stop staring at the sky. If you know me (or have read our About Us page), you know I have an affinity for sunsets (and sunrises, but let’s be honest–I hate mornings). The dialogue went something like this:
“Oh my god!!!! Look how awesome it looks!!!!”
-insert crying laughing emoji here- After being incredibly unamused with me and my affinity for sunsets, Michelle managed to pull me away from the view and we got our shoot in before the sun set entirely.
Michelle sports a tribal printed burgundy poncho with effortlessness and the richness of the burgundy pops amazingly against the lush vegetation in the background. Michelle keeps it simple and opts for our standard outfit base (a black cami and black skinnies) and completes the look with some cognac boots. While minimal, this outfit becomes a go-to for a casual-chic weekend outfit and if you haven’t considered it yet, a poncho can be a really great investment for the cold Fall and Winter months.
Poncho: Francesca’s; Cami: Arizona; Pants: American Eagle; Shoes: Cathy Jean.
“Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion. Have a lollipop!”
If you haven’t seen Disney’s Big Hero 6 yet then you probably think I’m talking nonsense, but if you have seen the animated film, you’ll recognize the line above from Baymax, (or as a certain friend calls him, Baemax) the cuddly robot!
If you are anywhere near as geeky or a “Disnerd” as I am then you will love Whositsandwhatsits, the site that this Baymax beanie was purchased from! The company was founded in 2011 by Tiffany Mink, and has become a holy grail for all the Disney merch you could ever need, I highly recommend you check it out!
While on my most recent trip to Disneyland Resort, I got the chance to hang out and shoot with our good friend Courtney (aka Cojo), who we’ve previously mentioned in our Dapper Day posts. We exchanged these beanies as Christmas gifts, so it was only appropriate to have a photoshoot!
“Flying makes me a better care provider,” so back on to a plane and off to San Fransokyo I went at the end of the weekend!

Back in September 2014, we talked a lot about showing up to shoots either being dressed like complete opposites (one casual, the other dressed up) or having the same color scheme going on. Well, it happened again. Really, we should begin tallying this because it’s happening way more than we imagined!
For this shoot, we’ve got the same monochromatic color scheme. I swear, we don’t compare what we’re wearing before we show up to a shoot, and quite honestly it’s more beneficial to the process that way–the element of surprise is great like that!
While our styles are fairly similar, there are also big differences. In my opinion, Michelle is way better at dressing cas, and most of the time that comes down to shirt or shoe choice, and she makes it look incredibly effortless. Throw on a loose graphic tee, some ripped up jeans and a killer pair of sneakers and there you have it! Ultimate casual-chic.
Also, can I just point out how awesome Michelle’s half top knot looks? Kudos Refinery29 for the 2015 hair inspo!
